Writer and performer Chirs Wallace presents a 19th century Mark Twain for a 21st century audience in an hilarious one man show that will leave you laughing, crying, stunned, provoked and challenged.
The show consists mainly of works that were never meant to be published, never meant to be performed or both. In one piece, Mark Twain takes on the Bible. In another he takes a bawdy, ribald romp through Elizabethan England. Anothe shows the other side of war. This surprisingly edgy and contemporary Mark Twain is balanced with a charming, mini-musical of the classic, Huckleberry Finn.
This is an edgy, irreverent, hilarious Mark Twain who speaks with a voice that has lost none of its power. Crhir Wallace uses his impressive acting skills to bring the words of the master to life.
SNIPPETS FROM REVIEWS:
"Chris Wallace brings (this material) to life with integrity, respect and immense talent. He maintains such a presence on stage; it starts to feel like there's an entire cast performing instead of just one man." Bianca Weiler - Db Magazine
"Wallace captivates the audience with his unique skills as a story teller....The music for the story of Huckleberry Finn is ideally suited to the theme and it would be well worth extending into a fully realised musical in its own right. All in all, this is a fine evening of theatre that leaves one wanting more." Barry Lenny - Rip It Up
"In this affectionate, almost reverential tribute (Chris Wallace) makes a convincing case for Twain's continued recognition as one of the great observers of the human condition" Peter Burdon - The Advertiser
"The Mark Twain You Don't Know" is a masterful one-man show...Wallace has an engaging presence that captivates.....playing both God and Satan, Wallace is inspired. ...This is a surprisingly edgy show with much charm, philosophy and wit...this show is a winner." Stephen Davenport - Adelaide Theatre Guide
