Bordertown

Saturday, 6 October 2018

Based on real events, Bordertown is the story of Patricia Barnes, a hairdresser from Bordertown who claims to have invented Bob Hawke’s silver bodgie hair style. Discontent with her own waning notoriety, she encourages her daughter, Felicity to head to Hollywood and become a star. Scoring a job on a major production Felicity manages to start dating B-List star and former stand-up comedian, Tyrone Jackson, much to the delight of her mother and a bunch of Australian gossip mags.  After a mere two weeks, however, the relationship falls apart, and in a fit of desperation, Felicity kills herself with hydrogen peroxide after Patricia refuses to let her come home. When Tyrone turns up at the funeral all hell breaks loose in a small town obsessed with fame.

This staged reading will be performed for one night only and is designed to give the play an airing before a full-scale production in April 2019. Actors will be reading from scripts and the play will be introduced by the writer Matt Hawkins.

Tickets are only $10 so come along and be part of the development of home-grown SA production.

The South Australian Playwrights Theatre is committed to developing and producing the works of local South Australian writers, both established and new.
