In Welcome to My World, Michele Thredgold takes the audience on a 50-minute warts-and-all journey inside her head and heart. She performs songs she grew up with which came to represent something unique in her own life, as well as songs she has written herself. These include humorous parodies from her addiction to chocolate to the frustrations of navigating with a vision impairment. Through song, elements of Michele’s colourful personality emerge, from her Christian faith to her cheeky/naughty side, with heroes as diverse as Boris Becker and Fred Hollows, and of course, her guide dogs. She explores the darkness of depression and the sense of alienation people with a disability often experience in mainstream society. The show concludes with a self-written tribute to the joy and healing music brings all people.
